Overview
Working with Prefixa, I was introduced into the world of visualization and the importance of generating high quality and consistent assets. During this time, I spent most of my time hovering between production and post production within the rendering pipeline. In between, I was involved in XR projects, where I took the position and lead in the UX UI area, where I fully applied design and sprint methodologies, producing high-fidelity assets.
Takeaways
During my time in Prefixa there were three main things I learned.
1. Attention to detail
I always believed that my attention to detail was strong because of the feedback I had received during my time in college, however, my PM’s were fundamental in helping me refine this skill. They were polite in addressing my mistakes and taught me to be more concise in my work. They emphasized patience and encouraged me to develop my own judgment in determining when an asset was truly ready for delivery.
2. Time Management
In college, my project workflow was basic: sketch, model, render, present. At Prefixa, I realized that understanding the project's scope is key to defining a clear path forward. This gave me direction and structure, helping me improve my time management. I also learned the importance of using non-destructive and modular workflows. Allowing for easier and quicker updates to designs when necessary.
3. Communication
I struggled with communicating my ideas and understanding others' feedback. Fortunately, the team was open and supportive, which helped me improve. I realized that asking concise, clear questions was more effective and that clarifying instructions by repeating them back ensured mutual understanding. Although I initially hesitated to ask questions out of fear of being a burden, I learned that seeking clarification early saves more time than the embarrassment of not asking.
